Player Code of Conduct
Being selected to play for GulfSouth RUSH Soccer Club is both an opportunity and a responsibility.
GulfSouth RUSH players are selected through a tryout evaluation process, and team placement is determined by the Club. Once selected, players are expected to follow all standards established by GulfSouth RUSH, league affiliates, and state associations. Participation in the program should be taken seriously, with a commitment to improvement, development, and representing the club in a positive way at all times.
At GulfSouth RUSH, we expect players to grow not only in skill, but also in character, discipline, accountability, and love for the game. In keeping with the values and expectations of RUSH Soccer, all players are expected to uphold the following standards.
1. Understand your role as a GulfSouth RUSH player
Selection to a GulfSouth RUSH team is earned, and team placement is determined by the Club.
Once selected, players are expected to participate fully in team activities, including training sessions, games, tournaments, meetings, and other club-sanctioned events. Being part of GulfSouth RUSH means making a serious commitment to your team, your coaches, and your own development.
2. Take ownership of your development
Players are expected to take responsibility for their own growth.
This means training with purpose, listening to coaching, working to improve weaknesses, and taking pride in your development every day. Progress does not happen by accident. GulfSouth RUSH players are expected to be accountable for their effort, attitude, and preparation.
3. Show professionalism and courtesy
Players are expected to carry themselves with maturity, respect, and professionalism.
Upon arrival at training sessions and games, players should greet coaches respectfully and be prepared to engage. Players must treat teammates, opponents, referees, coaches, staff, and spectators with courtesy at all times, including injured players and opponents.
4. Arrive focused and mentally prepared
Players are expected to train and compete with full attention and maximum effort.
Each training session and game should be approached with focus, discipline, and a positive attitude. Players should work hard, compete honestly, and never quit on themselves or their teammates. Horseplay, careless behavior, and inappropriate language or remarks are not acceptable and will not be tolerated.
5. Come prepared
Players are responsible for arriving with the proper equipment and attire for all team activities.
This includes cleats, shin guards, water, and any other items required by the coach or club. Players must wear the training kit and game uniform combination specified by the Club, including jersey, shorts, and socks. Wearing the proper uniform reflects pride, discipline, and unity.
6. Practice good attendance and punctuality
Attendance is a major part of player development and is a serious commitment.
Players are expected to attend all scheduled training sessions, games, and club events unless excused. Coaches prepare sessions in advance based on the expected number of players, so attendance matters to the entire team.
Players are expected to:
- arrive at training at least 15 minutes before the official start time, ready to warm up, stretch, and begin preparation
- arrive at games at least 45 minutes before kickoff, or as otherwise directed by the coach
- notify the coach or team manager as early as possible if they will be absent or late
When age-appropriate, this communication should come directly from the player, not the parent.
Missing or arriving late to training sessions or games may result in reduced playing time or other team consequences.
7. Give your best effort
Players are expected to compete with energy, determination, and purpose.
Effort matters every day. Players should strive to perform at their highest level during training and games, while remaining coachable and committed to team goals. GulfSouth RUSH players are expected to embrace competition and use it as a tool for improvement.
8. Be a good sport
Players must accept success, failure, victory, and defeat with maturity and dignity.
Respect for the game includes respecting decisions, handling disappointment appropriately, and showing class in all situations. Players must never argue with referees, taunt opponents, or behave in a way that brings negative attention to the team or club.
9. Understand playing time
Playing time is not guaranteed.
Players may receive more or less playing time than their teammates depending on team needs and coaching decisions. Playing time may be influenced by effort, attitude, attendance, coachability, determination, skill level, and adherence to club standards. Players are expected to accept these decisions with maturity and continue to work hard.
10. Be a team player
Players are expected to support and encourage their teammates.
Teammates are not the enemy or the competition. GulfSouth RUSH players should build one another up, communicate positively, and contribute to a strong team culture. Negative comments, selfish behavior, and division within the team are not acceptable.
11. Take pride in the club
Players represent GulfSouth RUSH every time they wear the badge.
Players are expected to act in the best interest of the game, the team, and the club. Publicly expressing disrespectful or damaging opinions about teammates, coaches, officials, opponents, or the club is unacceptable. This expectation applies in person, online, and through social media.
12. Be dedicated outside team activities
Development should continue beyond organized team training and games.
Players are encouraged to work on their skills outside of club activities, including ball mastery, juggling, fitness, strength, mobility, and recovery. Players should also seek to learn more about the game by watching high-level soccer, studying the sport, and practicing good habits related to hydration, nutrition, and rest. GulfSouth RUSH players are expected to approach development with commitment and discipline.
13. Communicate responsibly
Players should handle soccer-related concerns in a respectful and mature way.
Questions about playing time, positions, roles, or team matters should be brought to the coach appropriately and respectfully, away from other players and parents and not in the middle of emotional situations. GulfSouth RUSH players are expected to communicate directly, honestly, and respectfully.
14. Respect club policies and leadership
Players are expected to follow all club, league, tournament, and state association rules.
Failure to follow team standards, travel expectations, safety requirements, or behavior guidelines may result in disciplinary action. Being part of GulfSouth RUSH means accepting the structure, expectations, and leadership of the Club.
15. Consequences for violations
Failure to follow this Player Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action by GulfSouth RUSH Soccer Club.
Depending on the nature and severity of the conduct, consequences may include:
- verbal warning
- written warning
- reduced playing time
- suspension from training sessions, games, or team activities
