Parent Code of Conduct
Thank you for entrusting your child to GulfSouth RUSH Soccer Club.
Parent support is essential to a positive and successful club experience. At GulfSouth RUSH, we believe strong communication, mutual respect, and shared expectations between players, parents, and coaches help create the best environment for player development.
Our goal is to develop skilled soccer players while also helping young people build character, discipline, accountability, and lifelong habits that extend beyond the game. In keeping with the values and expectations of RUSH Soccer, parents and guardians are expected to support the following standards.
1. Support the RUSH philosophy
Parents are expected to support GulfSouth RUSH and the broader RUSH philosophy of player development. This includes understanding and respecting the different roles of players, parents, coaches, referees, and club staff.
Player development is the priority. There will be times when long-term growth, learning, and decision-making under pressure are emphasized over short-term results.
2. Support your child’s commitment
Parents should review player responsibilities with their child and reinforce the importance of commitment, discipline, and personal accountability.
Parents are encouraged to help their child:
- attend consistently and arrive on time
- maintain a positive attitude
- be coachable and respectful
- Get proper rest, hydration, and nutrition,
- develop independence and responsibility on and off the field
3. Let the coaches coach
Parents must allow coaches to lead the team.
The coach’s role is to teach, evaluate, motivate, correct, and develop players. Players grow best when they trust and respect their coach. Parents may not coach from the sideline, give tactical instructions during training or games, send texts or make calls after hours, or interfere with the coaching process.
4. Respect the training and game environment
Parents are welcome to attend training sessions and games, but they must respect the coach’s space and the player’s learning environment.
During training sessions and games:
- Parents are not permitted on the field unless invited by a coach
- Parents should not attempt to get their child’s attention during play or training
- All communication from the sideline should remain positive and supportive
5. Model sportsmanship and respect
Parents are representatives of GulfSouth RUSH and are expected to model excellent sportsmanship at all club events, including training sessions, games, tournaments, and team functions.
Parents must:
- treat all players, coaches, officials, opponents, and spectators with dignity and respect
- support all athletes in a positive manner
- avoid arguing, taunting, threatening, insulting, or criticizing others
- avoid profanity, abusive language, or inappropriate behavior
- accept that mistakes by players, coaches, and referees are part of the game
Parents may cheer, encourage, and applaud effort, but may not yell instructions, referee from the sideline, or make negative comments toward any player, team, coach, official, or spectator.
6. Respect referees and club officials
Referees and club officials must be treated with respect at all times.
Parents may not confront, argue with, harass, or verbally abuse referees, coaches, staff, or event personnel before, during, or after games. Any concerns regarding officiating or match management must be handled through appropriate club channels.
7. Help maintain a safe environment
Safety is a core RUSH value. Parents are expected to help maintain an environment that is physically and emotionally safe for all participants.
Any threatening, intimidating, aggressive, or physical misconduct toward a player, coach, official, parent, or spectator is strictly prohibited and may result in immediate disciplinary action.
8. Communicate appropriately
GulfSouth RUSH may use team managers, club staff, and approved communication platforms to share team and club information.
Parents are expected to:
- keep contact information current
- read and respond to team communications promptly
- direct administrative questions to the appropriate team manager or club contact
- address concerns respectfully and privately through the proper chain of communication
Concerns about coaching decisions, player development, or team matters should not be discussed during or immediately after games or training.
9. Follow the 24-hour rule
If a concern involves a sensitive or emotional issue, parents must wait at least 24 hours before contacting a coach or team representative.
This cooling-off period helps ensure that communication is respectful, constructive, and focused on solutions.
10. Practice attendance and punctuality
Training sessions, games, and team events are important parts of player development.
Parents are expected to:
- make every reasonable effort to ensure their child attends as scheduled
- Notify the team manager or coach as early as possible if the player will be absent or late
- arrive on time and be prepared with the proper equipment
11. Meet financial obligations
